Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ... modems? That's right, modems. You are NOT going to want to be without yours this Friday when Rumble for Rome reaches its triumphant climax LIVE and online. Here are some details as to what will transpire during this epic confrontation between some of the best Rise of Rome players on earth. Also you will find the official Media Alert at the bottom of this newsletter.
The four combatants are Maimin_Matty, _Methos_ST, The_Sheriff, and Seasian. Each of them are being flown to Seattle this Friday, December 11, to compete at the Wizards of the Coast Game Center. The Zone will present up-to-the-minute play-by-play of the games, screenshots and digital photographs of the tournament. Make sure you stop by the URL above at 6 PM PST. WHAT: The online gaming world elite will gather in Seattle for the finals of the "Rumble for Rome" tournament, sponsored by the MSN Gaming Zone. After a month of fierce competition among 700 contestants, four finalists will gather in Seattle this Friday (courtesy of American Airlines) to compete for the title of "Grand Emperor" and the grand prize - a trip to Rome (courtesy of Canadian Airlines), $2,000 in cash and a replica of a Roman shield.
The MSN Gaming Zone is the most popular online gaming site on the Internet, serving more than 3-million users. Age of Empires has sold-in more than 1.5 million units worldwide and is the most-popular CD-ROM-based game played on the Zone. The Rise of Rome is the expansion pack for Age of Empires that was released in October and has quickly climbed the sales charts selling in nearly a half million units worldwide.
WHO: Finalists from California, Tennessee, Minnesota and Toronto, Canada will compete for the Grand Emperor title. In addition, more than 200 game industry notables such as Bruce Shelley (developer of Age of Empires and The Rise of Rome), Chris Taylor (of Total Annihilation fame), Dennis Fong (a.k.a. "Thresh"), Richard Garfield (Creator of Magic: The Gathering) and other VIP's will be on hand to take in the tournament action.
